Vale do Rossim Dam

Vale do Rossim Dam, located in Portugal’s Guarda district within the Serra da Estrela Nature Reserve, was completed in 1956. Serving as a hydroelectric facility owned by HIDROCENEL, Energia do Centro, SA, it harnesses the waters of Ribeira da Fervença, forming a reservoir spanning approximately 0.37 km² with a capacity of 3.5 million m³. The gravity dam, measuring 27 meters in height above its foundation base, supports a wall crown stretching 375 meters long and 1.5 meters wide. It incorporates both base outlets and flood relief systems, facilitating a maximum discharge of 10 m³/s and 66 m³/s, respectively. The reservoir is interconnected with Lagoacho Dam’s reservoir through a 3,270-meter-long tunnel, further contributing to hydroelectric power generation.
